I looked out the window and what did I see?

15 Wild Turkeys looking back at me!  yes, during the winter months, we sometimes have turkeys come up the the bird feeders.  They can be really neat to watch, but they are skittish! if they even sense motion in the house they are off and running.  The pictures are not very good since it was still early morning, I was taking the picture through a window, and the flash went off!  But you will get an idea on them

So today is another day.  I still have a few patterns to get written up. Then I have nothing in the future looking me in the face.

Have a great day!

A long day!

It has been a long few days here on the Richards Homestead.  I feel like I have done nothing but sit in front of this computer hitting the keys.  But when you have a small Internet business it is necessary!  But I am all caught up now. I got my last 3 patterns all listed on their sites, now it just wait for them to sell! it sure would be nice.  But I have gotten a lot done these past few day. not only did I get my patterns all listed, but I now have 3 more that my prototypes are done and I just have to get the patterns written and I can get them listed as well. but once it is all said and done and they start selling I should have a lot more free time!    NOT  we all know how that goes! There is always something to do!

But I must say, we have been in this house for 20 years, and I have been feeding the birds for that long. and guess what? we finally have a cardinal coming to the feeder pretty regular! now if I can par down on those blue jays!  they are draining the feeders as fast as I can fill them!  But I do like watching my birds.  It can be very relaxing after a long day. that and a nice fireplace to sit in front of, which I am going to go do now!

Have a nice evening everyone!
And this is what my yard is going to look like very shortly! as soon as the snow starts falling in earnest.  and yes, that birch tree is really in my yard!

I'm Back again!

Yes, it has been awhile since I posted, I really have to get better that this, but it has been a rough few weeks, what with the hurricane, and then the Nor' Easter hitting us. thankfully we did not loose power like a lot of them down south of us.

so I have been busy in my craft room! I got these little critters done when there was not much else to do. The honey bees are a spring pattern. so yes, I guess that I am starting early. you can find him in "The Pattern cupboard" " The Prim Pattern" and "Pattern Mart" under my pattern name "Flower Patch Designs"

these other three have not been listed yet, but they will be coming really soon! hopefully this weekend!

and yes, I am trying to do some bowl fillers for spring! so hard to think of spring when Thanksgiving isn't even here yet! but could not resist working on these little critters. What do you all think of them?

Finished!

I have not done much in my craft room this week. I have been busy moving the last of our firewood for the winter.  I didn't get it all moved, but I came close. what little bit is left will stay there until spring!

In between times, I have been busy trying to rework my Esty store as far as title, tags, and descriptions. and as soon as I can get a round tuit I am going to be working on my pictures as well. it started out great!  my views were way up, ( for me ) and then yesterday they all fell again, I am  just hoping that it is because it is midweek. hopefully this weekend things pick up again.

Just in time for Thanksgiving! but geez, we are not even through Halloween yet!

finially finshed!

I finally got these little bowl fillers done.  They have only been sitting around in my craft room while I was working on my quilt.  But, the quilt has been put back to bed for a bit. so can now work on some more crafts .so these little guys are all done and already listed on Esty.  Now lets see what they do!

They are just a hair over 4" tall with a weighted bottom, so when the "kids" start horsing around they wont get hurt!  They can sit anywhere, not just in a basket.  I can see them nestled in the boughs of your Christmas tree peaking out at you.

Great day!

It has been a beautiful day so far! Really nice and sunny, but a bit on the cool side.  Winter is on the way!

I have spent a good part of my morning moving firewood. I only got so far when my back said enough!  I would of hand it all done in the nice weather of Sept if I had not of gotten sick. So now I am playing catch up!  But I still got enough moved for today. If it doesnt really rain tomorrow I might get a bit more moved over.  I should really have it under cover so that it is dry in case I need it.

I have spent some time retaking some pictures for my Esty shop.  One thing that I realized is that most of my pictures had a date of 2007! well, that was not good,  People do not want to buy what they consider "old" things that have been hanging around to long.  So a bit at a time, as the sun permits, I am retaking the pictures, and yes, I have a lot to retake!   But, it can only help my shop to get nice fresh pictures in it. Ones with out dates to them!  I am also checking for fuzzy pictures, and as I go I am checking my description, titles and tags. Every little bit helps.
This is a landscape quilt that I did awhile back.  I just love those mountain lakes!  but can you imagine how cold that water must be?  I am surely not going to stick my toes in that water!

Beautiful day here in midcoast Maine

Yes, just great today!  I had to got to town real quick this morning. Now real quick is relative. it is a 45 minute trip each way! One of the problems of living out in the country!  On the way home I had to pick up a tire for my lawn tractor. It had to go flat with only a bit of work left to do with it this fall, but it is all fixed and I even got it back on myself!

So this afternoon, I ended up moving some firewood. I only have a little over a cord to move. Just have to get it closer to the house so that I can get it easily.  But I got some moved today. and tomorrow the sun is supposed to be out so I can get out and get a bit more moved. Then we have more rain coming for the next 4 or 5 days. well, at least it isn't snow yet!

Speaking of which, they are predicting a lot of snow and cold for this part of the country this year. We had a nice mild winter last year, but guess that Old Mother Nature is going to pay us back this year!  At least I don't have to drive in it if I don't want to. just stock up the old pantry!  And, in the meantime we are still waiting for Indian summer to arrive! it is to cold to soon!

But have a great evening! and enjoy this beautiful fall weather while you can

Roseville Quilt

I have been working on my Roseville quilt again. it has been a long time since I did anything with it.  but if you go back to my April 28 post, you can see the pictures of what I had done then. it is very entailed!

I am doing the fusible applique on this one. and there are a ton of pieces in each section!   I have been working on it for the past 6 days and am ready to put it back to bed again. but every once in awhile, I need to do something for me!  I have 8 more blocks to get fused, then I have this winter to stitch it all down. ( by machine )  but I can do that in front of the fireplace on those cold snowy days. of which we will have many of them.

and yes, I admit, I did try to hand applique it. it just does not work for me. not something as entailed as this, I guess that I have to practice on bigger pieces before I jump into something like this!

so now off to take a break from sewing and veg a bit before bed

Real nice busy day

Yes it has been a great day! the sun was shining this morning and it got up to the mid 70's!  but it sure will not last. going to rain tonight and the temps are going to drop big time.  tomorrow is turtle neck and sweater weather!  I am sure going to need them.

amid the going in and out today because of the weather, I did manage to get some things done.  I am working on some more polar bears and penguins.  these are a bit smaller so that 3 will fit in a basket comfortably.  but the first coat of paint is on my penguins and the polar bears have the coat of modge podge on it.  tomorrow I can finish the painting on my penguins, and add the face, then just add the face to the polar bears!  the muzzle is  put on last so that I can stitch the nose and such on after the modge podge is applies.

I will tell you, I do have to keep my window open!  that modge podge tends to smell after a little bit!

So you all have a good night and will chat with you all later

Two of my newest "things"

I think that you are really going to like these little guys.  they were fun to make! of course it is hard to tell how they are going to come up until they are all dry and  put together, but they came out just great!  Even my daughter, who stopped by today has laid claim to them.   sorry, they are already spoken for.

So enjoy my little polar bear and penguin bowl fillers!

Winner of the Little Bat Give-a-way

I finally drew a name for the little bat that I had to give a way!  actually, I ended up drawing 2 names!  I had over 100 entries! so I thought that it would entitle someone else to have a bat as well.

so send a big welcome to Vicky Weaver of Paintspots and Splinters!  and.............
            Lori Gagnon from Applegrove Treasures!

and believe it or not, both of those bats are flying off to Florida!  I guess that neither of them really wanted to spend anymore time in Maine than they needed to!  it is getting a bit chilly up here now.

So thank you all for the support both with comments, face book followers, and new blog followers!  each one is appreciated!

Good Afternoon everyone!

Yes, I am acutally writting a blog post today! these last three weeks I have been unable to think clearly. I came down with artritis in my neck, and it usually heads into a headache when it acts up. one dose of advil usually does the trick, but this time it didnt! so I have gone three weeks in and out with a massive headache and neck ache all at once. so hard to think when your head feels full of air! hopefully the worst is over now and I can get back on track again! Cathy

Wednesday, September 5, 2012

Yeah

My give-a-way is working pretty good! I have several new followers both here and on facebook. someone is going to get this cute little bat come the end of Sept.!

Clarification!

I would like clarify something. This bat that I made, is not my own idea. at least I thought that it was, but the general idea came from Threadbare Primitives. and I have appologized to her. This bat will still be given away as I have promised, but you have to understand that it was not all my own work that went into it. What I though had come from my mind ,didnt, Hopefully the rest of my patterns that I am trying to make does not step on anymore toes. for that I am sorry and I hope it never happens again Cathy

I finially got something done

It has been a long summer baby sitting my grand daughter, but she is now back in school!  Yeah!  I forgot what the feeling was, I remember what it was like now when I could not wait for my kids go go back to school!  oh the peace and quiet!  Now it is time to catch up on things.

I have a few new paper patterns listed on Esty now. including the crow and the turkey that I did. but I also listed this cute little floppy eared bunny rabbit!
He sure does not look cute and cuddly looking does he. maybe because his ears are to long!  He sure was fun to make!  My daughter has the pattern now to merge the directions to the pattern pieces. I cant do it on my computer, I just don't have the software for it. but once she gets these last 3 back to me, then I can offer up epatterns as well. so much easier when you can just add them to an email and send it out. sure saves on postage! and saves on waiting on the postman as well.

I have three more that I am working on, the prototypes are all done, now to just get the patterns written up. that should not take long. it is getting easier the more that I do. but I sure do hate all the proof reading!

Everyone stay safe if you are in the path of Isaac!

Great Weather!

We have had some really beautiful weather up here in Maine this past week! not to hot during the day, the humidity is down, and nice cool nights. great sleeping weather! So I have neglected my computer work for working outside. I have mowed the lawn, cut down some dead flowers that have been dead for awhile. started laying a flagstone path, and did general clean up around the yard. with baby sitting this summer, I just have not had the time to do what I usually do!

and I course, I have been working on some of my patterns. I know that they are simple things. but that is what I was looking for when I first entered the world of prims. As I do more patterns I will probably get more creative. but right now I am happy with what I have. I also have my patterns listed in the "Prim Pattern" there is a button on my side bar, and also the "Pattern Cupboard", and of course on esty!  I have already sold several patterns of which I am ecstatic!  I know it takes time for people to find my things, it took me over 3 months before I got my first sale on esty, of course it still is not where I would like it. but I am still averaging one sale a week. just wish it was more regular!

but for now, I am off to bed, for some reason I just cant seem to catch up on my sleep after this summer!

Have a good night!

another long day

but only one more babysitting!  yeah!

I did manage to get a few things done today though. I got these cute little turkeys all done!  I am working on writing up the pattern for them. but kind of cant do much computer time with the g-daughter here.  but tomorrow is another day.

he is nice and chunky, just right for sitting on your table! hopefully I will have him listed on esty here in a few days.  hopefully others think he is cute to and would like to make one for their table!

I have a few more projects that I am working on. no baby sitting tomorrow so should get some good headway going.  if they turn out I will post pic of them also!

have a good night and enjoy this nice weather while we have it!

Long day on the computer

I have been spending my time getting my patterns listed in different places. and learning new sites is not fun!  but I now have them in stores on esty, lilyshop and bonanza.  those I will have to email out.  and then I have them on Craftsy and Prim patten. those sites are instant download, so all I have to do is to monitor them and hopefully watch the money roll in!

I would really like these patterns to make it.  it would be a good supplement to my income. but will see.

in the meantime, I am having a blast when I actually get to work on a new creation!  its just the computer work that I don't like. but gotta do it!  :0)

Has it been that long already!

I did not realize that it has been so long since I have posted.  I have been pretty busy between my grand daughter and trying to write up some pattens to sell. so far so good!

I only have 2 more days that I am going to baby sit, then school starts, yeah me!  so I can get back to the business of getting my business up and running!  trying to find websites that I can list my patterns on can be a chore. but once I get a few going I will be on a roll. and I am getting there!

In the meantime I am going to post a few pic of what I have designed these past few weeks

I sure hope that some of these guys sell! I would really like to break into the  pattern side of Primitives!

Wednesday, August 1, 2012

You just gotta see this little guy!

So this is my little beaver! He really came out pretty cute if I do say so myself!  and I didn't even have to remake any of his parts!  Now to just get the directions written up and I will be set to go!

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

Working on my next pattern

Yes, I have number three in the works. and yes, its another critter.  This one is going to be a beaver,, I hope anyway.  I have all the pieces all cut out, stitched, and turned right side out. that's the easy part!  tomorrow I might be able to work on it some during the day. but have to work around the grand daughter!  She at least lets me do  some hand work here and there.  now lets hope that I don't have to remake to many pattern pieces!  The face will be the hardest to craft. I can see it in my minds eye so should work out just fine. but we will see!

Have a good night!

Inventory Reduction Sale

Yes, I am having a Inventory Reduction Sale in my shop in Esty.  I have marked down all of my small quilts, lap quilts, and wall hangings and table toppers.   they have been marked down anywhere from 25 to 50 percent. so there are some really great deals to be had!  I just need to clear some of my inventory since it is getting to where I cant move in my house! just to many totes laying around!

So just go to my shop and take a look around.  www.QuiltAples.esty.com

Thanks!  oh and spread the word!

My next critter

OK, so I got this cute little guy all done. now to just get the pattern written up. It is mostly done. just have to check, check, and check some more!  I don't have the program to combine the pattern pieces with the written pattern but my daughter does. so she puts things together for me. problem is, she has already done the first pattern twice!  but the more that "we" do the better we will get.  I already have ideas for the next one!

And yes, I did have to remake some of the parts on this one. strange how you can see it in your mind, but it turns out different!

working on pattern #2

Yes, I am working on  pattern #2. I have my critter done.........after I had to take some pieces apart and remake them.  just didn't like the look of it.  And I have my rough draft of the directions on "Word" so tomorrow I can work on fine tuning it.

I am not going to show a picture tonight. it is just to dark now and I don't have proper lighting to get a good picture. but this guy is a Elephant Pin Keep. He came out pretty cute!

Once I get a few of them done, then I will get them copyrighted. better safe than sorry!

So tomorrow , once the sun comes out I will get a picture of my Elephant and let you all see it.

Have a great evening!

My first pattern is done!

Yes, it is all finished and ready for the Publisher so to speak.  I had a lot of errors to fix, my fingers tend to get "tongue tied" when I type.  real good thing I have spell check! but it doesn't tell you the difference between hang and hand! or not and now!  but after several checks of it, I don't think I have anything wrong with it! So it will be ready shortly.

And now I am working on my next critter. I have it all cut out and partially stitched, now to just  put it together and see how it looks!  so check back soon and I just might have another  picture to show you!

Almost done with my first pattern

Yes I am almost done with my first pattern!  I am getting excited!  I have wanted to get into designing my own stuff for quite awhile now.  So I am finally getting on the boat so to speak.  I just have a few computer glitches to work out then my pattern will be ready to go.  I have so many ideas on what I want to work on, but have to get the first one  under my belt first.

Everyone have a good evening!  and enjoy what is left of summer

A really cute design!

OK, so I was playing around. Some of you know that I really want to get into designing my own things.  This is what I came up with.  It is based on the ideas from Threadbare Primitives and her pin keeps.  I did not use any of her pattern pieces, just the basic concept.  Would like your honest opinion on how it looks!  and needless to say, I just love using Batik fabrics on these pin keeps!  it gives them such a different look! and no two will ever be the same!

Has this ever happened to you?

Sunday. I just vegged all day. It had been a long week, and the insomnia did not help.  This morning I got a small project started, one that I could do the hand sewing on while I watched my G-daughter. well it didn't work, not only did she not take her rest, but what I got started I suddenly didn't like!  it was just not coming out right. I sure hate it when that happens. They looked so much like the pattern, but they just did nothing for me. Oh well, there are more projects out there just calling my name!

Have a great week! and I hope that you all who need the rain get some!

My Ravens are done!

Even though these don't really look like the picture on the pattern, for a first go on them, I am very pleased with the way that they turned out. a lot of trials and tribulations!  actually the one with the wings out looks more like a duck to me. but it is all black with a waxy finish and Cinnamon rubbed all over. I really have to work on my  priming. but I am getting there. I am sure if I do another set that they will look better. now to find a permanent home for them in my house!

And yes, slap my hand, I took the picture in the sun.  but I was anxious to see how they looked on film!

Working on my Ravens

My Ravens are coming right along!  As you can see I have them all painted. I finished stuffing and painting them last night. of course as you know, nothing looks right until they are done. Hopefully this weekend I can get them finished up.  next step is to put the legs on and then stitch them together!  the finial part will be to put some of that wax all over them and then highlight them with some Cinnamon.  I always get anxious to see the final result!

Thursday, July 19, 2012

My next project!

These two Ravens are from "Soft in the Head"  I fell in love with them the first time that I saw them. I just had to find time to do them!

Now these are going to be for me!  I have filled my shop so am taking time off from making things for my shop. so now it is time to think of me!

Besides, I already have an order from my "kids" for at least 6 of my landscape quilts! each one of them wants something different. these would be for the grands for Christmas. So maybe now it the time to get started on them. you know how fast Christmas sneaks up on you!

I also have to think of what I want to put in my shop for the Christmas season. decisions decisions.  I have a few pattens for then, but not many.

Tomorrow I will not be sewing much though. I have Kieley in the morning, then it is off to town to do my weekly errands! with out her! she is hard for me to take to a lot of different places. And I surely don't want to go to town on a Saturday! not this time of year anyway!

So you all have a great night!  And thanks for the new followers!

My Waxy Primitive Cats!

Yeah, they are finally done! these were done using a finishing wax. a bit messy but worth it!  a set with the light wax, a set with the dark, and then I painted the last set black and put a wax on top. it really makes them soft and supple!  and the wax on the black looks just like leather!

I know that I did some things wrong, you were supposed to rub cinnamon on them before the wax set. well I waited to long, but I will learn that aspect of it as well. So I tried to use the colored pencils for the highlights and it didn't really stick to the wax. I did manage to get the legs highlighted, but not the eyelids or the nose.

even with my problems, I really like how they turned out!  What do you all think of them?

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

Very Productive day today!

Yes, I have been busy! I got my surprise patterns done!  It is a Frankenstein pin keep! Another great pattern from Threadbare primitives!

I also have my cats "Sadie and Jinx" from "Barefoot Primitives" just about done also.  I am trying a new technique on my prims and I am really happy with it!  once I get the cats done I will post a picture and you can tell me what you thing of them.  This technique I have learned from "Soft in the Head"  instead of using coffee or tea to stain you muslin, you use a finishing wax!  It is a bit messy but sooooooooo worth the effort!  but I am working on the eyes now, then all I have to do is the whiskers. hopefully, grand-daughter willing I can get them on tomorrow and show you all a picture of them.  oh, and if you use the wax on black paint, it looks just like black leather!  yes, I am excited about this technique!

But this is Frankenstein! or Frankie as I call him, not scary at all!  I love doing these pin keeps!  they are so easy to do. and depending on the material that you use, they can all come out different!

So I hope that you all have enjoyed your day!

Really Busy Day today!

Yes, I had Kieley again today. will have until School starts again.  But..........I was up early and finished up these two cute Ghosts for my shop!  They are patterns from Threadbare Primitives.  Needless to say, as many as I make  of them, I really like her patterns!  Right now I am working on another of her patterns. they will be done tomorrow. grand-daughter willing that is!  but that will be a surprise!

I am also working on Sadie and Jinx. a pattern from Barefoot primitives. while they were drying I started the "surprise" one.  I have to sew when I can!  and tonight is a good night for it, it is still to hot to sleep here. But I did get up nice and early today so I was able to get quite a bit done.

So , until tomorrow!  I will have the surprise pattern done. and yes it is a Halloween one, to show you all.

Have a good night and stay cool!

Very busy Summer so far

It has been a very busy summer so far for me. I have not seemed to find the time to much of anything. it is amazing what having a child in the house does to you! My timing is all off! Between that and this heat and humidity I seem to have done much of nothing.  But I did manage to get a few things done. mostly at night when it is cooler , or early in the morning before Keiley comes over.  I do manage to get some handwork done while she is her, but not much.  but I love her dearly. she is usually such a sweet even tempered little girl that just loves to play with my dog! who of course loves to play right back!  So in the meantime, I have made up a few things for Fall and Halloween. These two fabric bowls are from a pattern from Robyn and Motherload toad on Esty! aren't they cute?  The sure do work up really nicely, and you can do so many things with them.
This one would be just great to put that Halloween candy in!

And this one would look great all season long! who doesn't think of pumpkins in the fall.

Now these are my Bats!  These are from a pattern from Threadbare Primitives.  She uses Homespun on her critters. but I thought that they would look great with the grungy look!  you can even hang these critters from the ceiling!  I love how the great big eyes came out.

I finally finished up my Dog quilt for the customer in Calif. that was one project that I am glad is over.  I had fun doing it. but putting the pieces together was like putting a jig saw puzzle together. and if I remember rightly, I don't like doing  puzzles!  It really came out nice though and am pleased with how it looked when I was done.

Sunday, June 24, 2012

oh, yes

well, I know it has been a week since I posted, but a busy week at that.  I now have my special need grand daughter for the summer. for some reason, my daughter could not find a baby sitter. so Monday through Friday!  she is a real good kid, but has a mind of her own. you say do "this" and she does "that" smiling all the way!  so I do very little crafting while she is here.

I did start a few sets of my primitive grungy owls though.  I did the sewing machine part at night after dinner, then the hand work I can so while she is here. so it may take time to get them done, but at least I can work on something! I have so much that I want to do this summer and I have not even started on my fall things yet.

In the meantime, I also have two custom quilts to make. the first one is just a crib quilt. I made a lot of progress on it this weekend. just down to the quilting part. but as you quilters know. that can be the longest part of it!  then I have a twin quilt, the center is a large applique dog. but I have to enlarge the pattern somehow since the original pattern if for a wall hanging and to make the dog fit proportionally, it has to be enlarged. so will see what I can come up with. at least there is no hurry on this quilt!  I have the material ordered, so once I figure out the pattern I can get to it. but that is another evening piece of work! sure cant let my grand daughter get into that!

This is a picture of the wall hanging that needs to be turned into a twin size quilt!

So take it easy and enjoy the summer!

Busy day today

I had just spent 3 days down with my Aunt in NH again. I try to go down every 6 weeks or so this time of year. but will be the last trip of the year.

Tomorrow I start watching my grand daughter for the summer. she is a sweet kid. but constant motion!  I will need some extra energy to get through this summer!

Today I ended up getting some plants for my yard, so I ended up planting them so that they are done. now to get them healthy and looking good! time will tell!

So I hope that you all had a happy fathers day and enjoyed spending time with your families!

Another landscape!

OK, so I  just finished this one  also. I was having problems with my Internet yesterday so had to do something to fill my time!  :0)  So I sat down with a few pictures that a friend sent and worked up this little beauty!  She really came out nice.  this one I just may keep myself!

The picture is a little dark, we don't have any sun at all to day!

This is an original design. ( from a photo ) I never use patterns when I work on my landscapes. this makes them truly unique!

Landscape Quilt

This is the latest landscape quilt that I came up with.  cant you just feel the fall in the air!

I really love making these, I can really use my own creative side as opposed to another persons pattern.

Ok, it is time to add a few new pictures!

I have accomplished quite a bit the past week or so. So I thought that I would share some of the photos with you!

This is a pattern of my own design. I put a flat bottom on it and filled it with the plastic beanies. of course when I sanded it, you can see where the beanies are!

These mushrooms are from a pattern from Motherload toad!  I made 6 big ones and 6 little ones!

These are my pears. I tried to pick a material that kind of looked like a pear. I think that I made it alright.  this is also  my own pattern.

My pumpkins for fall!  and yes, another pattern from Motherload toad! she has some really neat patterns in her store!  There are still a few more that I would like to get, but it will have to wait.

My summer apples! this is a combination of two different patterns.  I like the way that they came out, but to me they are to flat, not round like an apple should be.

And lastly! another fabric bowl!  I love making these! they are so easy and a great way to use up some of that fabric stash that I have!
